This incredible one family owned 1978 Datsun 260Z is likely to be the most original, lowest mileage and best preserved example left in the world.
Sold new on the 18th of August 1978 to a Mr Edward Kemp from Harlow Datsun for the sum total of £6,210 including all taxes, this is shown on the cars original bill of sale which is present in the history folder. Along with this is the original service book, user manual and original Harlow Datsun tax disk holder. All tax disks have been kept from 86 to when the car was last used by Edward Kemp in 2010.
Every MOT is present while the car was on the road which supports its astonishing 15,500 miles from new. That’s right, 15,500 miles from new with every MOT certificate to support this.
The bodywork is completely original which is staggering, with only the small odd stone chip, which is what you would expect from being 40 years old. The car was never used in the rain and was heavily wax-oiled from new. This has quite literally saved the car from becoming just another rusty Datsun in a scrap yard. The underside of the car still bears its original body colour paint and looks amazing for its age. The car has never been stripped or rebuilt and holds its originality and patina. Chrome work is original and on the whole still has a nice shine.
The interior of the car makes you feel like you’re stepping into a brand new Datsun 260Z with no wear or tear on any components. Seats are presented in black vinyl with black cloth centres and black carpets which really makes for a great place to sit. Being the two seater variation, you have a large boot area. Under the rear carpet houses the cars original, and complete, tool kit and jack.
In 1991, this very 260Z featured in the Z cars owners club magazine with the title “ is this the lowest mileage 260Z?” At the time the mileage was only 9,875! This copy is supplied with the cars history file, along with every Z owners club magazine from 1990 to the early 2000’s!
Edward Kemp, who purchased the car new in 1978, died in 2010. The was passed onto his daughter, who signed the car over to her husband and kept the car in the family until 2017 and was mostly unused in that time. In 2018 the family decided to part with the family heirloom after being in their ownership for almost 40 years.
The term ‘time warp’ is over used greatly as of recent. But this 260Z, which still, after all these years manages to exhibit itself in an overall untouched condition with the smallest amount of patina really deserves the time warp cliche bade and should wear it proud.
